Anybody doing this? Our DD was going to apply to GMU anyway, and her LCPS HS is participating, so it seems to make things so much easier. https://www.gmu.edu/freshman/george-mason-direct-admissions
It’s only available with a handful of HSs. If your DD’s is one of them, no reason not to take advantage of it!
Yes, but be aware the high schools were selected to boost GMU's diversity numbers. But, yes, participate.
https://wtop.com/education/2024/09/how-some-va-students-are-getting-admitted-to-college-without-ever-filling-out-an-application/ GMU is pretty diverse already. I think the intent is not to boost diversity numbers but to encourage kids with good grades but maybe first generation or otherwise not having the support to take on the application process. It can be a win/win for both the students and Mason.
This. It is about 1st gen and lower HHI of any ethnicity. It is not about diversity.
Of course, it's about diversity. Get real. This program was an initiative started by a black friend of mine on GMU's board. These are the high schools selected. What do they all have in common? Direct Admissions to George Mason University Gar-field High School: 62.6% Hispanic, 20.7% black, 6.5% Asian, 7.1% white Potomac High School.56.6% black/African American, 24.4% Hispanic 8.2% asian, 11.2% white Osbourn Park High School. 44.9% Hispanic, 16.3% black, 13.1% asian, 20.7% white Woodbridge High School. 33.6% Hispanic; 22.3% black, 7.7% asian Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School. 19% Black; 20.4% Hispanic. Freedom High School. 38.2% Asian; 8.6% Hispanic, 6.7% black Forest Park High School. 2% black; 20.8% Hispanic, 8.2$ asian Osbourn Park High School. 44.9% Hispanic, 16.3% black, 13.1% asian, 20.7% white
It’s Potomac Falls High School, in Loudoun County. For some reason they chose the three Sterling schools (along with Park View and Dominion) to participate, even though PFHS is 41% White, 29% Hispanic, 14% Asian, 10% Black, and 6% multiracial. Park View is 74% Hispanic, and Dominion is 43% Hispanic, though.
No, the participating school is Potomac High School in Dumfries and that is its diversity figures.
