But for fed, there is back pay (traditionally, now backpay is required by law, if they follow the law. It was signed by Trump during his first term, after 35 days of government shutdown).

the problem is that they are threatening to not pay folks that have been furloughed.

so if you are fine with an unpaid leave of absence, don't file. if $1600/mo is helpful or needed if we don't get backpay, then file. you will still only owe taxes where you live.[/quote]

I am not very concerned about their threat not paying furloughed employees,  I just think it is their strategy to put pressure on D to open government.

If they don't pay, we can win the case in court.

I don't think I can claim unemployment benefit back from October 1, the shutdown has lasted 23 days, it is extremely unlikely to last more than 45 days. It could re-open by the end of this month or early November. It is kinda "late" to apply for unemployment benefit while government may open in a few days.[/quote]
