Our PTA organizes after school classes like chess and coding and yoga. They've had trouble filling them though. I think they added before and after care spots and with RTO parents can't get back by 4:30 to pick up their kids so the classes don't replace aftercare, it's just an added cost.
A colleague has talked about how hard this really is. They both have always worked outside the home. They cope by shifting their work schedules. He comes in and starts work very early - between 6:30am and 7am - so he can leave earlier to pickup kids in the afternoon and handle dinner. His wife takes care of breakfast and getting kids to the school bus, then works late to get in her 8 hours. Each parent is in the office during the applicable core hours, in his case these are 10am-2pm. However, the frequent early dismissals and teacher work days and random mystery school days off still wreak havoc on them. It really is tough for them to juggle everything.
