Fairfield inn in Battery Park is safe, friendly and pretty cheap. We were there for lower manhattan activities.
OP specifically said not Lower Manhattan. Doesn't get much lower than Battery Park.
NP- It's a great location though, sounds like op doesn't realize it and thinks it'll be inconvenient. We stayed at the Double Tree Hilton there: nice large room for NYC, view of statue of liberty, super quiet, subway to everywhere right there, can walk to South Street Seaport...
Agree. In 2023, I stayed at the Hotel Indigo Trinity Place. It was across the street from a subway to go uptown. Clean and very nice room layout. We had a side view of Trinity Church. There are breakfast places and a 7-11 and a hotel restaurant. It's within walking distance of Fraunces Tavern where we had a very nice lunch. I don't care if it is a tourist trap. The food was good and I liked the dining room atmosphere. We went uptown to go to the theater. Stayed in that area again in August but did not like the hotel as well. It was fine but not as good ambience. It was near Jubilee Market which was convenient for grabbing grocery store food & hot bar Korean food when needed. I saw 5 shows and hotel savings helped.
