Pp here. Our neighborhood will be zoned to either QO (home bound now), crown or Gaithersburg HS based on initial boundary study, and all are grouped under region 5. So, it does not really matter, we will be in region 5. Does that mean we should consider to move to other region on behalf of know kids? What is the selling point of being in region 5? We were hoping to get into poolesville magnet.
It kind of depends on what age your kids are and if you're okay with their current feeder schools, if they're still in ES and MS school age. We know a teacher who went to an elementary school in one of those area and left pretty shortly afterwards. We heard from another teacher that that school was chaotic and likely why the teacher left. But I used to know a substitute teacher who was one of the first choices for the principal at that same school and was always happy to get long term assignments from that same school. Not sure if something changed in between since then (like fifteen year difference) or it's something specific with those individuals. But as long as you're happy with the current schools. You could potentially wait until your kids get to high school. And what the proposed regions mean is that if you or your kids are not happy with their assigned home school, they could potentially try to go to one of the other regions by trying to get into one of the programs at the other schools. Or maybe your kid will actually be interested in one of the special programs at another high school. So maybe do a cross that bridge when you get to it kind of thing, instead of moving when you weren't planning to. Also some areas had the middle school assignments proposed to change too. I think I mainly saw this with areas currently assigned to Julius West. But something else to watch out for in the next round of proposals if it matters to you.
