I don’t think they prioritize (or have) wins after U15 ever. They routinely lose including at the local level against BSC. Thats up through U19. And I haven’t seen any Achilles coaches sitting quietly on the sidelines, I’m not sure what was happening there, every time I see them it’s a screen fest with a completely purple faced nut job shrieking a top volume.
Bethesda can and does draw from an army of players, Achilles does not. It’s a small club. I will say the Achilles U13 squad last year came in 4 spots higher in QoP ranking than Bethesda, and played in the 2025 MLSNext Cup, not just the showcase—going to the quarter finals. Bethesda cannot say the same. That said, Bethesda is a very solid club. I agree with an earlier poster—set up a few practices at each club. Then go with whichever you feel most comfortable with.
We are currently with Bethesda as well and this is accurate. We routinely beat them because they don't have the horses to compete generally not because of coaching. Here is the difficulty with winning, the Rankings app, QoP and all of these metrics and why I give their program respect. I watched our BSC 2013 2nd team play the 2014 Achilles 1st team last year and BSC won 10-0. Blowout, right? If I were a scout and had to select the best 5 players on the pitch, at least 3 would have come from the Achilles side and my son agreed. Puberty (or faster growth before puberty) is still undefeated and Achilles does not make selections based on size and winning. They will develop you no matter what shape or size you are if you are willing to put in the work. Even at SuperCopa last year, they were so many "top teams" playing puberty ball. If you feel BSC is too far for you, you should definitely see if the Achilles environment matches your personality. Naturally, BSC arguably produces the most professionals and D1 players in the area but Achilles, pound for pound and based on their size, is outproducing most clubs in the area. I would definitely watch a few games as well to see them in their true environment. I actually recommend this for anybody looking at moving clubs next year to see how a coach actually coaches when not recruiting and showing you their good side. You want to see the warts and be able to live with the warts. Everybody has warts, even our coaches at BSC.
