People also seem to write more substantive comments on Reddit, especially when discussing complex topics, and there is more tolerance for this. On DCUM, people freak out if a comment is more than a couple sentences. But that's not uncommon on Reddit and within many posts, the most upvoted comment will be one of the longer ones, because it provides useful info or outlines an interesting argument very well.
