The Cons for us:

Elon as a town felt very small. We tried to go to a restaurant on Sunday, and two of them were closed.  There aren’t that many and it might get old by the end of 4 years. 
It would be very expensive for us (65k coa) and we probably wouldn’t even qualify for that $8000 of basic merit aid, but we’ll see.

We also did a visit recently and were very impressed and concur with these positives that include the excellent tour, also having some of the same concerns. It's not as isolated as some here make it out to be, btw. I got good advice here to stay at the Inn at Elon and eat at The Root Trackside. My current worry is strength in the sorts of major/programs my kid is interested in. They seem to shine in business/communications/teaching/nursing. My kid is more interested more traditional liberal arts/humanities. TBD whether my kid actually applies, but it's not a knock against the school -- it would be a fit issue based on academic goals. Still investigating.
