Basketball is recruited at club/travel level. Does your son play for a quality? HS should be fun. Transfer to your local public. Play a lot. Enjoy.
HS basketball - including at publics - is intensely recruited in the DMV. My kid’s local public recruited 3 WCAC players his sophomore year and 2 IMG players his junior year plus one out of state public kid. DS got recruited by both public and private schools trying to get him to transfer, which he almost did.
My son, a small starting guard and sharp shooter, was recruited by local JV and varsity HS coaches at their camp last year. He's attended the camp for several years and now in middle school but will be considering all HS options next year when he enters 8th grade. He's at the camp again now and he told me the coaches are asking him which HS he'll attend after next year but I haven't spoken to the coaches, yet. My son would have to enroll in an option program to play for their school. As long as my son keeps up practicing and playing hard, I am pretty confident he'll make his local HS team. He's played for one of the top, often-mentioned DMV teams but now plays on a sneaker circuit team that travels, playing in national tournaments.
Depending on the county, this likely isn't allowed. Similar to the poster above you. I hope you both get caught, there is nothing worse than people overrating their kids talent and trying to game the system.
It’s allowed in DC.
