Punching up and being self deprecating is always funny and tends to age well. It’s been a long time since I watched a lot of Rodney Dangerfield but I remember his fat jokes as cartoonish - laughing about sort of imaginary people, like his caricature of his wife. Also he’s the definition of self deprecating, and his schtick was about being a goofy dope. I suspect he’d be fine today - probably would have a somewhat different routine but he’d adjust just fine.
