I think your plan of action should be to find another live-in nanny position in the city, where pay is higher and where you won't need a car.  You can then look into getting rid of your car.  I know people are harping on the car issue, but I understand not wanting to give it up.  However, if you're in a better place living-wise and financially, it would be very feasible and beneficial to ditch the car.
