In addition to the well known ones, there is the heart disease and hypertension that is a risk in both fields and the cancer risks for fire fighters goes well beyond lung cancer. I would be really proud if any of my kids selected this type of public service. But I am secretly relieved that none choose to be a firefighter Also, because of my job I see salaries of firefighters and police in the DMV on a daily basis. They aren’t making anywhere close to a quarter of a million a year even with overtime. These jobs are passion jobs. [/quote]
