Back in the day apartment rentals were stress free and fees were included for the premium on renting an overpriced apartment. Now that's not the case you might as well buy a SFH even a small one if you don't need so many bedrooms. Here are the fake fees my apartment complex (UDR) imposes: 2 service fees 1 monthly Billing fee 1 convenience fee 1 Membership fee 2 amenity fees (even if you don't use the amenities) pest control fees (even if you don't need pest control) hot water fee water fee sewage fee Parking fees per car Technology fee Trash Package room fee (monthly and daily if a package is in a locker) Gas and electric I pay myself now-these all used to be covered in rent fee as a convenience now there is zero "convenience" for renting an apartment. Renting is now scam you also have to pay for things to be fixed now! Even small stuff like light bulbs (odd sizes too) that they used to cover no problem they're nickel and diming.
This is a great example. Along these lines, my husband was a renter when we were dating. We cleaned out his apartment when we moved in together, and it was SPOTLESS: dusted, vacuumed, moved the appliances to make sure the floors underneath were cleaned - we worked all day. Stupidly (I guess) my husband didn’t do a walk through with the property manager when he left (this is a large regional property management company). Not only did my husband NOT get his deposit back, but this company had the gall to send him a BS invoice charging him for non-existent damage and a cleaning fee. Yes, he should have done a walkthrough, but it’s a crappy feeling that these people just walk around fraudulently charging people. There are so many other examples but I’m too tired to write more.
