My parents would constantly ask why we weren't applying to more Ivies and say obnoxious things like "oh, XX went to that school, she was a terrible student." With one parent (they're divorced) I claimed from the start that we had basically decided that DC would go to our state school, which has a generous admissions rate, and didn't admit until after acceptances were all out that we had in fact applied elsewhere. [/quote] This is a great idea if your kid is on board (and my guess would be a yes.) Tell grandma you are all head over heels and the die is cast. Then do what you want and alert them after the facts if/when something has changed. I also like the idea of actually getting head over heels about said state school so DC has a safety they are happy about. Win-win![/quote]
