Somewhat amusingly, in many American Jewish circles, the NYT is seen as too pro-Palestinian and hopelessly biased against Israel. So maybe people just think “not on my side” is “on the other side.”
Op. Yes I know those circles. They basically want all Palestinians referred to as ‘terrorists’ and that sort of thing. Frankly I think most of them don’t even read the Times but they all circulate the same stance about how biased it is. It’s not, it’s rather pro Israel with some thin efforts to present the other sides position, but often in thin ways. Examples, referring to killing and other atrocities against Palestinians by Israel in the passive voice, highlighting individual stories of Israeli victims while rarely providing the same personal coverage of Palestinian deaths, etc . And their photo coverage is totally white washed. I give a lot of credit to the NYT overall, but I do think they come up lacking here
I think their coverage has been hugely biased towards Israel and was encouraged when they finally published the Op Ed from the Israeli Holocaust scholar/former IDF soldier who called what Israel is doing in Gaza genocide. But then they have to screw it up with Bret Stephens and his malignant idiocy
