My friend has that same diagnosis. We've been friends for 21 years, she's been married to the same guy for about 25, and she has two very sweet, upstanding kids in college and has held a job the entire time I've known her. Super stable. [/quote]

That’s nice.  My MIL suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder.  To the outside world she was a kind, compassionate woman who worked as a hospital chaplain, baked cookies for her neighbors, and was a devoted friend.  To her kids, she was mean and vindictive and prone to stop speaking to them for weeks over a perceived slight.  She lost her filter a bit as she got older, so some lifelong friends got a peek at what her children had dealt with for decades and they were shocked.  Things aren’t always what they seem.  [/quote]
