I get being worried and concerned, but are you seriously unable to cope? That is not normal. Are you currently in therapy?
Yes, I am. My daughter died at 2 days old, so I very much worry.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I wanted unmedicated births, and did them in hospital. Thank goodness, because the first time my son was in danger and came out grey, and the second I lost too much blood and nearly died. Morons who think it's fine because women have done this for centuries forget the extremely high mortality rates during childbirth. You should continue to push for a midwife-assisted hospital birth. I worked with a midwife practice, and they were fully ready to support me at the hospital. I had full liberty of movement, no one bothered me, the environment was satisfactory.
DP access to such a hospital setting is varied. In many cases the laboring woman is confined to her bed because it is easier for the nurses to monitor all the babies from a central location so they need to hook up all the moms to the monitoring equipment. I am glad you were able to advocate for liberty of movement. For many people that is simply unavailable. US birth outcomes are worse than most other high income countries, and we have a much lower proportion of births attended by midwives. Our absurdly high maternal and infant death rates are not a result of too many women having home births. Home births and birthing centers can be safe if the midwives have appropriate procedures in place for hospital transfers and if the mother is willing to transfer to the hospital if needed.
