The only reason to go there is for the water. You’re going to be in Hauppauge, which is smack dab in the middle of the island. There are some “charming” towns nearby that may be closer to the vibe you’re looking for. Smithtown is the closest. If you want something that looks at water, but doesn’t require water activities, then maybe Northport, Stony Brook Village, or Port Jefferson.
