I like the idea of really bright colorful heels, maybe multi-colored and shiny. Adds a little kick since this is engagement pic and not actual wedding.
+1. I prefer engagement photos that don’t read like “wedding lite”
This^.
X1000. It’s almost like ruining the wedding impact when wedding light attire is used. I’m really surprised op is going with a long white dress for engagement photos. Maybe not in my circle, but most engagement photos I see don’t take that track. They are casual or night on the town fun.
Maybe I’ve been poisoned by social media because I see a lot of brides wearing white bridal outfits throughout their “bridal era.” For the engagement shoot, engagement party, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, etc. I thought it was what you were supposed to wear. I figured since the dress is tea length and doesn’t have much in common with my wedding dress (scoop neck, 3D floral lace bodice, full organza a line skirt) it wouldn’t change the impact on the wedding day but now I’m rethinking. I do want to wear a fairly formal dress to match the historic hotel where the shoot will be. If anyone has non-white outfit suggestions, I’m all ears. I still have time to find something else. This is the hotel: https://ashlandspringshotel.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Architectual-Digest.pdf
The very idea of a “bridal era” makes me think you are fairly young- in your 20s? If so, live your Pinterest/TikTok/Insta dreams. If you’re any older, please pop the bubble and find your own personality. You can celebrate however you want. There is no “look” these events are supposed to have.
Thanks for your input. I’m actually a geriatric bride at 34! But I work in social media marketing so better or for worse I pick up the lingo and notice the trends, and sometimes even want to participate. I don’t live in a bubble, have plenty of my own personality, but the algorithms work as designed so I just assumed it was common and even traditional for brides to wear white outfits throughout their engagement for wedding and bridal events like an engagement shoot. I don’t come from a big family or prominent social circle—I haven’t even attended a wedding or adjacent event since I was 13– so I simply don’t have a frame of reference besides what is pushed to me via social media. I like the dress and feel good in it, but I’m also not very fashion-minded and would be open to something else.
