I’m a Brit living in the US for over 20 years. Americans are very welcome and appreciated in London. My American husband and children are always treated kindly.
Dh is british and we take the family there every year. Everyone hates everyone in London, not just Americans. It's just a really mean city, like NYC. The smaller towns i find very welcoming. Then again my ILs live in a tiny village where everyone knows everyone. We come in and the candy shop owners give my kids free sacks of candy while telling us all about their latest American adventures. I found it so refreshing and welcoming compared to London, Nottingham, Newcastle, Birmingham, and Lincoln - other places we lived or have family. I find most of the small shop keepers in those small towns just lovely - similar to here.
