The exchange rates shifted substantially when the tariffs were announced and have remained consistent since then, so early April. I booked our August flights for Switzerland in January and rates were around 1 eu = 1.04 USD and now it's 1.14 USD. But I also remember when the eu was in the 1.20+ territory so I am not complaining too much. In mid May I accepted it was unlikely the rates would shift back into the USD favor and started looking at our trip logistics. I discovered some of the hotels we'd booked back in January-February via booking.com were offering discounts so I canceled the original bookings and rebooked at a nicely lower rate. That alone made up most of the differential. For those still planning trips, it's noteworthy that airline flights are still cheap (for this time of year). You can still get round trip tickets to Switzerland in August for under $700, pretty much the same or even slightly less that we paid in January.
I do not know how people find these cheap flights! We are flying to Spain and tickets were $2500 there on premium plus (each) on United and $1000 on economy on Iberia. And we are flying mid week and I really did shop around and couldn’t find better for direct flights. We would go to Switzerland next August for 700 rr for sure!
When did you buy? We bought our Switzerland tix in December for a very late August flight and they were about $700. My kid just bought tix to Amsterdam (nonstop) for a trip in July and also paid about $700. We have found that buying really far out or 6 weeks out yield the cheapest flights.
