Also thought of another option. Use Snapchat or BeReal apps. Make them add you or take the phone. Kids communicate primarily through snap and they won’t miss a message because you can see if they are active. They might leave you “unread” but they can see the top line so don’t be fooled. You can also see their position on your snap map. My partner does this. BeReal, forces them to take a picture to prove they are where they say they are and you do the same. Reach them on their level. Also totally Life360.
Giving a child snapchat so they'll answer the parent's call is absolutely insane behavior.
Actually it’s not. For those who don’t know, kids do not text anymore. That goes away sometime in middle school and completely gone by high school. Now They “snap” each other. That’s how they get other kids phone numbers and communicate in teen world. And the worst part is the “snap map” where they can see where every single of their friends is and if they aren’t invited. But unless your kid is a complete recluse, this is how they communicate with each other whether you know it or not. So my DH got Snapchat and added the teen kids. We can see where they are at all times and if their Snapchat location matches up with Find my phone and Life 360 locations. We also snap them if they don’t respond it’s an issue because we can literally see if they are active or not. Use technology to your favor and twist it to suit your needs as a parent. Staying ahead of the game and in their technology helps a lot. If we lose contract with them on any THREE of the apps in use or via simple text/phone call, it would be impossible and there is zero excuse so they lose their phone for an extended period of time.
