My 2024 grad had a 1510 SAT, 4.2, 10 plus APs and was waitlisted > rejected from VT engineering.

Grades were strong enough to get into multiple higher ranked engineering schools than VT.

Looking at the naviance for my kid's high school, there were several high ranked kids with similar stats rejected or waitlist/rejected from VT.[/quote]
