A $5 gift card to a fast food place like Dunkin Donurs, etc, taped to a big bag of chips or movie theater sized candy with a bottle of Prime or another drink. For 10 kids, it should cost $100 or less, especially you get the chips/candy and drink at Dollar Tree
Why does a 10 year old need a gift to take home from a party??
They don't need to, but it's a fun way of saying thank you and recognizing a friendship. Is it extra on top of the party? Sure. Is it a terrible thing? No. And I totally agree that chips and a $5 donut gift card would be appreciated. My kids would love it.
I’m someone that just posted I don’t do them, it’s not my thing, gift giving really isn’t my love language if you will so I kind of hate buying a bunch of stuff for goodies bags. But throwing parties totally is my love language and I think I throw really fun ones that I’m sure would feel like way too much work or over the top to some parents. I say this all to say - I totally agree with you in the sense that, there are all sorts of fun things to do - do the ones you enjoy and don’t worry about it! If buying Japanese erasers or a fun gift certificate that you know will make the kids light up brings you joy and make them feel like hey we really enjoyed having you then do it! If it’s going to be drudgery for you, it’s ok to skip. And when other parents do it differently be like hey maybe that brings them joy even though it doesn’t me, so glad my kid gets to enjoy that instead of saying it’s stupid crap.
