I'm pretty sure you have to give names at a hotel as well. Seems reasonable to me to at least take down names.
No you don't.
Yes you do and each room needs a separate person making the reservation. If you were say staying in four hotel rooms, four different people would have to give their information including a credit card. You also have to put the ages of the people staying with you and how many.
New poster. Where do you book with these strange rules? Never had issues booking 2 hotel rooms. And never needed to add names other than mine, except when it was someone else checking in before I arrive.
So when you stay at a beach hotel with friends, you just book their rooms for them and take responsibility for their stuff? I doubt you've ever booked a room and taken responsibility for anyone who was not in your family.
NP here and not a fan of AirBnB, and I’m not sure why the hotel comparison is relevant, but tons of people book a hotel room that they’re going to split with a friend. More relevant is that tons of people, including me, also sign leases for vacation homes which will house large groups, not all of whom are family members. This is how we vacationed for years pre-kids and when our kids were little - with 5/6 other couples in a gigantic house. No one asked for names of the other parties, much less needed IDs or other information that should be kept private in almost all circumstances.
