Had they been smart, they'd refinanced the loans on those during the low-rate years and cost of housing should have done down, not up.[/quote] Why should they offer housing at bellow market rate? The local slum lords hold more sway than parents who will be gone in anther couple years. At base the issue is that government really doesn't subsidize higher education the way it did for previous generations. If the school can charge more, they will.[/quote]
