There is supposed to be some minor enrichment in 3rd grade, I suppose if your kid had fallen through the cracks and their teachers failed to notice they needed enrichment then the GT designation might prompt them to do so, but in most cases that is based on teacher assessment and bright kids generally get it (to the extent it exists, which is usually not much) with or without the designation.
