My first two babies (full-term twins) were very active and spent a lot of time interacting from the beginning. Then came baby #3 who slept 23.5 hours a day for the first two months. He breastfed on a regular schedule and was gaining weight normally, but he was so sleepy that I took him to the ped twice to make sure he was okay. He gradually outgrew the sleepiness after the first couple of months and he's now a very healthy and active teenager. However, he has always needed more sleep than his brothers, especially during growth spurts.
I'd like to add that I remember going online and asking about extra-sleepy babies, and unlike this group, people were very supportive and let me know that some newborns do sleep excessive amounts. (I really miss that parents' group, but sadly it's no longer around.) Every baby is different and as long as he's eating well, the sleeping is not a problem. Just remember that your next child, should you have one, may likely keep you on your toes.
