I know it happens because I have seen it. But, its so unfair to the 2800+ kids at the mega publics to have coaches telling more kids to transfer in to take spots on the team. Basketball teams are so small already! The public schools need to shut down all these BS 'language' or IB/AP transfers. Kids can move into a school zone if they want to attend that school. Or, they can play at the school where they live.  [/quote]

PP. Yes this is still legit because students can transfer for academic reasons to attend a "better" school or participate in other extracurriculars. They are not outwardly transferring for sports. My son transferred in to a lower-rated academic school to play basketball while others transferred in to his zoned school to play other sports. Two of my friends transferred their daughters into different schools for Arts programs--one for theater and chorus and the other for band.

As it turns out, my son's zoned school also had transfers in who played basketball so his home school team would have been a good competitive option as well, but he preferred playing for the other school and coaches, and with his friends. Doesn't matter--he's been playing for years, trains daily, and he would have easily made either school team (and no, he's probably not interested in playing in college--just for fun and the love of the game).
