Are you from out of town and currently renting in one of the buildings near Mount Vernon square? Walker Jones is probably good/fine and a guaranteed IB preK3 admission. You could also get into Thompson instead in the lottery. But that area wouldnt be my personal first choice for preschool years. It is high in traffic and somewhat low on playgrounds and weekend kid activities (like ballet, soccer, tball, and options for summer camp). The problem however with moving is preK3 is not guaranteed in most of the “desirable” zones. You would need to decide to move for reasons that extend beyond just school.
Live nearby. Walker-Jones is not a school I'd consider even for ECE. Sorry. Thomson is great though. Also consider Stevens Early Learning if you're not staying for K-5. Disagree on the description of living here with littles. Downtown/MVT is actually pretty great for pre-K kids..they can run around the mall and the sculpture garden. There's all those free museums with playrooms! Membership at the Building Museum is only $90 a year for up to 6 people and it's a great place to play. Children's Museum membership is pricier but worth it. There's a splash pad at City Center, and one at Franklin Park. And Cobb Park is about to open with a brand new playground. Yes, you'll have to drive a bit for ballet, but there's plenty of soccer and t-ball close-by! Stick around OP! See you at Cobb Park!
