Mine- there is way too much pressure on little kids to be elite. What even is elite and why are we putting 3rd graders through supplemental trainings in addition to travel club practice? whose ego are we satisfying?
All these little kids going to supplemental small group training is crazy. If it makes anyone feel better, DS made a few MLSNext teams and did
Not do any of those. Lots of free soccer play (many siblings and cousins to play with) outside of team practices though.
I think this is the issue for many kids. There aren't other kids to do free play with. Mine play recess at soccer, but outside of that there aren't neighborhood kids who want to kick a soccer ball around. They all play lacrosse, football, basketball, and/or hockey. If we want to get kids together who enjoy soccer it has to be this planned thing where the parents coordinate and decide on a location. So might as well just sign up for something where the schedule is predictable. It stinks.
This is my problem too. I do love that my kids chose to play with a big group daily at recess though! But he isn’t at their level either. Because he took a break and did a couple of seasons of flag football and swim. So.
