I've heard many of the kids at the independent schools use tutors even though most won't admit it. Does anyone have any good recommendations for a math and writing tutor in the DC area? Someone familiar with the rigor and curriculum at Maret, GDS, St. Albans, NCS, Sidwell, etc. would be great!
There is a steady stream of NCS girls being tutored for math by the STA faculty. If you are on the Close I'd ask around who they are using now.
Do you have to pay for the STA faculty tutoring?
Yes, and it's a costly. It's frustrating that NCS hasn't staffed a team of solid math teachers.
This is a problem at both NCS and STA.
Really? My sons haven’t complained about their math teachers at STA, but their friends at NCS do come across campus to be tutored after school hours. I don’t think you’d see this in reverse.
Then your sons have been lucky enough to avoid the bad ones or they’re not on the honors track. MS math has sucked since the experienced teachers left three years ago, Upper School math has some problematic teachers and some good ones. It’s the good ones who are doing the tutoring, obvi.
Definitely honors track and only attended high school. But I realize that the teaching may vary by instructor. Yes, my sons must have gotten lucky,
