I found a poodle breeder though AKC. She and her husband breed dogs and are dog show handlers. That is all they do. They have a a large property with a kennel in Texas. She told me she shows pugs while her husband shows and breed poodles. I did find other breeds of dogs on AKC that it seems they breed or cobreed/own with other people which she didn’t disclose such as bulldogs and Maltese. I asked how the puppies were raised and I was told it was in their home and I asked if I could see the mom but I was told she was spayed and rehomed as they don’t want to bred her again. They told me I could come to their kennel if I wanted. If I Google them I see no bad reviews and a few clips of them showing at big dogs shows. Are they a mill or not? The poodle puppy in question is $3500.
Selling at least 4 breeds between them is a red flag. How old are these puppies that their mom has already been spayed and rehomed since their whelping? That’s a huge red flag.
+1 Legit breeders are not breeding dogs of four different breeds. Legit breeders dedicate themselves to the advancement of the breed, and it’s really complicated and takes a lot of time and effort, and you really can’t do it with four different breeds. I also don’t like it that the mom dog is gone — and it’s like she’s trying to say the right thing, to show that she isn’t over breeding the dogs, but it’s weird that the mother has been rehomed so soon. It doesn’t seem likely that that would happen so quickly.
Agree with all of this. My parents bred and showed Scottish Terriers for about 20 years. They never would have gotten rid of the mother of puppies when they were only 12 weeks old. That's really strange.
Puppies are weaned by 8 weeks, no?
Generally yes. But that doesn't mean they should be separated from mom that early. Why not spay and her and rehome her after the puppies have left? It's just weird, as any responsible buyer should want to see the parents.
This, it’s a red flag.
