Leadership isn't using scientific mercenaries.

I'm all for cutting taxpayer money that funds research for foreigners.  Let them pay for their own research and skills.  Quit training our competition.[/quote]

This comment is odd to me. I worked at a public university and I noticed that many scientists are non-us persons or permanent residents. Most will remain in the US indefinitely or permanently, contributing to US science. I'm sure a lot of them started out as foreign graduate students. Graduate research associates are typically paid a modest hourly wage or stipend and tuition reimbursement during the time spent on a project.

The real fellowship programs are already limited to US persons and/or citizens. Foreign students aren't taking these opportunities from US citizens.

Many of the projects that NSF cancelled are not targeted toward foreign nationals- it's underrepresentation in STEM. Women, minorities, economically disadvantaged populations, people with disabilities, etc. [/quote]
