My husband and I just found out that that our baby due in October is a boy. We had a shortlist for girls, but we can't even come up with maybes for a boy. Girls names we liked: Sabrina (my #1), Josephine, Veronica, Amelia, and maybe Orla. We have a one syllable relatively common last name that starts with M. Ideally we'd have a first name that is easy for the average American to pronounce/recognize but uncommon enough that there aren't multiples in a class. Any ideas?? I sort of like Rory for a boy, but it's very similar to our nephew's name so we think it'd be weird.
This isn’t such a thing anymore like it used to be. I have a 4th grader and 2nd grader. The only names that are repeated in either of their grades (no repeated IN their actual class but in the entire grade) are Nora, Ben, and Leo. So I would tell you avoid Ben and Leo haha but every other name, even names higher on the SSA name list, are not repeated. Most ppl we know want more unique names for their kids so there just aren’t a lot of repeats anymore.
+1 I wouldn't let popularity drive the decision. I worried a bit about it when naming my son Jacob. It had been the most popular name for years. But it was a family name and the connection was important to me. I'm glad I didn't pass on it because of popularity because he only ever had one other Jacob in class.
