VT would often be referred to as the land grant university. W&M is a national university in USNWR, but it is often considered as an alternative to SLACs at the undergraduate level. I don't necessarily agree with your distinctions between JMU, VCU, and GMU. I believe they are all included in USNWR National Universities now. USNWR is really using Carnegie Classifications to distinguish between National Universities (R1/R2) and regional or LAC designations. [/quote]
