If it’s first generation immigrant, the mom could be visiting from overseas and doesn’t speak English. So someone has to be with her. It could also be that the mom has health or medical conditions that require someone to be with her. So let’s not guilt trip her. Now if her mom is a fully capable/independent person and the two are spending time at a spa while son is alone at orientation, then that’s different. [/quote]
