He put off registering for an admitted students day and was shocked (!) that his preferred date had filled up by the time he got around to doing the signup. A few days before the event a space ended up being available--but the experience was probably a good wake-up call. He was much more on top of registering for orientation and an optional outdoors orientation program he wanted to do. In this case, on top of it = setting a timer and completing the application as soon as it opened up. (This delighted my ultra-planner heart so much.)

He is putting off getting on the app that his college uses for kids to connect with potential roommates, so he may have some undesirable consequences to that decision ... then again, he may not. Some people go potluck with roommates and make lifelong friends, some people plan it out to the nth degree and have a miserable experience.

This is my second to go to college. One of the big things I have learned about parenting a young adult is that it is really about supporting them in having the kind of life they want. Some things are learned the hard way and some things are learned the easy way, but I try to save my nag energy for the really, really important things and let the rest go. [/quote]
