The USWNT does not field small players period. Maybe some short ones, but they tend to be outside backs and super athletic which is always going to keep you in a lineup in the US system.
You just ruined your argument, Chachi. Rose Lavelle is absolutely huge isn't she? She's only 5'4" and by no means "big'. Ally Sentnor is young but making quite an impression already. She's 5'3" and plays as a forward. Croix Bethune, 5'3" is a midfielder. Mal Swanson, forward, 5'4" Tiffeny Milbrett, 5'2", Mia Hamm 5'5", not huge. Crystal Dunn is only 5'1". Yeah, she plays as left back for the USWNT but is most often in midfield or playing as a forward for her club teams. Why on Earth would you say it doesn't count if a player is short but athletic? There is a reason they are called athletes. They are athletic. Poindexter/Poindexterettes, who aren't athletic at all, no matter their size likely won't make it no matter how long they can play keepie uppie in the yard. If you think smaller players across the world playing at a high level aren't athletic and just "technical' you're sorely mistaken.
That's the part that always burns me. People will always use Messi as the short technical example but they conveniently forget that he is also a freak athlete who had world class speed.
