The new story will be that grocery prices are higher because of tariffs. People don’t know or really care what tariffs are or what goods they apply to, or that they are reciprocal. So grocery prices are what they are but really, what can the government do with all these other nasty countries not helping out?
Tariffs impact imported food products. Trump's big deportation push will increase the cost of domestic meat and agricultural products, as well as restaurant prices. Grocery prices aren't going down any time soon and will in fact continue to get worse. And I don't see Republicans doing jack to help increase wages. Any increase in profits all go to the top of the corporate food chain, virtually nothing ever "trickles down" - the Republicans popularized that term with their disastrous policies of the 1930s and it gained more popularity with Reagan but the data shows clearly it's a lie and very little of it trickles down.
Yes, tariffs impact imports. But no one was looking to increase those until it became a trade war, which didn’t come from those places first. But you know, not the government’s fault. It’s the nasty people at the other end who just won’t take it.
