Only if they don't bring it up obnoxiously all the time. Ex would send me fear porn/doom and gloom articles all the time that eventually radicalized him politically. Eventually I got tired of arguing with his rightwing crazy and just stopped engaging. We got more and more disconnected. I'm not even super liberal. I'm moderate/independent and I couldn't take it. It's definitely part of the reason we are divorcing.
That is key! I top have friends that are conservative and liberal. I consider myself also moderate and independent. Some of my friends have preferences on both sides where they may believe in a strong border policy, fiscal restraint, but also want gun control and are pro choice on abortion. I cut off communication with an older brother who would shift any conversation into a political debate knowing full well it conflicted with my views. Basically, I won't entertain exhausting and insulting people on either side of the political spectrum including family members.
