Totally normal. DS was skinny in elementary school. Pudgy in middle school. By HS graduation he'd shot up to 6'1" and very slim. Similar diet and exercise all the way through.
For a sec there, I thought I wrote this. I had to check the date/timestamp on the post. Exact same thing for my DS, 6' at 20, but probably still growing. He was a late bloomer. DH said he went through the exact same thing, also a late bloomer - gained weight, stalled growth in MS, then shot up in HS. He's now 6'2". DS was "pudgy" from 11 to about 14. He hated it. But, he played a sport, and ate like a normal tween/teen. Hit puberty at 15 (during covid), slimmed out and grew. When he went back to school after covid, people didn't recognize him. Apparently, they named him the most "glowup" superlative. He's now gone back to being super skinny, having a hard time finding pants that fit around the waist and length (he has long legs). Wasn't so much of an issue when he was in ES to wear pants that were a bit too short, but as a teen, almost 20 year old, obviously, that's more of a problem.
