I posted on here a few months ago asking whether it was worth taking my kids to Phoenix for 3 nights back in Feb. We went and we had an AWESOME time. Totally incredible hiking, decent food options. Not sure where OP would go to let her kids roam around freely but I would look into different parts of the city if that's of interest. The hiking was out of this world, and it's so cool to come from the east coast and land in the middle of the desert.
