There’s actually speculation they may try to consolidate FFRDCs further. Splitting them up makes them more expensive because they have to carry individual overhead expenses. There would be a lot of staffing redundancies, even on the technical side. The way it works now you may have one person supporting 2 or 3 projects for different sponsors so one FTE could be 3 multiple people providing specialized skills as needed.

Who knows how a consolidated FFRDC would be managed, but having a deeper technical pool is a good thing, in my opinion. [/quote]

DHS COR here. My bet is the gov will consolidate STE to a few FFRDCs. Why does MITRE have so many of them? Just put it all under one IDIQ contract and let multiple agencies use it. [/quote]
