Any updates, OP?
A childrens hospital today diagnosed AML leukemia. I'm not sure if they could test bone marrow or tissue same day, so I'm not sure if this is a preliminary diagnosis or for certain. Parents are devastated but hopeful. Friend is not sure how to coordinate a second opinion on best treatment, and from where. Does the current hospital oncologist reach out to a facility or doctor of parent's choice at their request? And where/who would be best to chose for it? Who is the best for children's leukemia?
This is very well meaning but the hospital has a dedicated care coordinator who helps guide parents in this process. Don’t try to crowdsource a healthcare plan on the limited info you have, just be the friend and provide emotional support.
Last time I sat back with a relative with an aggressive cancer treated at an unnamed DC hospital, rang bell, had no idea how terminal it was (I knew it was) - they died, sort of unexpectedly, from an incredibly common cancer. now I have less trust
