Many experienced meteorologists were considered "probationary" because they'd been promoted into a new job at a different part of NOAA.

And, yes, more will be fired today.

I'm convinced that their boss, the Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, is insane - like, lost touch with reality insane.
