Guys just be happy we have MLS and NWSL, 30 years ago this was a pipedream. We are not going to become Euro junior in soccer. Best to carve out own identity and all these plans are way to ambitious for a coutry with no soccer culture and lots of other distractions and alternatives for athletic kids. I want you to be right but I also don' think I'm wrong.
What kept everything back was the influence of college (specifically womens) soccer. Until recently going pro in women's soccer was as difficult as getting on a national team. But the pay was ridiculous and nobody cared. At least with the national team there were endorsement opportunities. So players quickly realized that the best option was to play in college. Now colleges are slowly pulling back on non revenue sports and pro teams are slowly starting to pay players more. This makes the pro pathway more and more viable. The girl dad's need to look at what's happening with MLSN + pro/college recruiting because this is where the women's game is headed. As an example once Acadamies are established on the women's side this is where both pro teams and college recruiters will look for talent. Not at showcase events (as much as they do now)
Except we all want our daughters to go to college because no degree does not a sustainable lifetime make
You say that now but when pro teams offer 400k+ a year with 50k put aside per year for college when they retire you'll change your tune.
Ok, Ms. Ricketts
Who's doing that? These american girl exceptionalism expectations to make a boys game comprable for a american girls to have their cake and eat it too is ridicuolous. What soccer clubs cares if your DD can get a college degree when they decide to hang up the boots. Clowns!
And how many of these girls really would go back to being a college freshman on campus at 28 years old?
Yes this is stupid.
