OP here- I have a problem with the concept of a perfect all- knowing God. From what I can see God has made many mistakes. Like babies who get cancer, suffer and die. Just one of many examples. I think from the responses the worship issue starts with the many definitions of what worship means.
If you believe in God, why don’t you understand that Man fell and the diseases and death in our world are caused by the fall of man? It’s a very basic concept.
Many of us religious types don’t interpret the genesis story of humanity’s fall from divine grace as being literally true. To me, the genesis story is like an Ancient Greek myth describing how our separation from God’s presence and love in our lives represents our choices. I don’t believe that the first woman bit into an apple and led the first man astray. I believe that our separation from God’s love and grace comprises personal choices much more complex, relational and impactful than eating the fruit that daddy told us not to. The Hebrew word for "sin" is khata' which means "to fail" or "to miss the goal". The word is not always used in a moral context. In the OT, sin is primarily a failure to fulfill a goal, such as loving God and others. Sin can also be defined as a failure to live up to what God expects of us (loving God and others) and that sin can be unintentional. I think OP’s concerns are valid from a human perspective. We humans make a lot of mistakes and mess things up and it is common to blame God for all the problems in the world. Although I believe that God’s love and light is ever present and available to us within ourselves, we can’t really understand the mystery and why there is so much pain and suffering in the world. 1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
