You know that, right? You can even stay back from the tour on certain days and go where you want to go on days that you take as "free". Tours are good for people who don't want to do a lot of planning or don't have time to plan (hotels, meals, transportation between sites, etc.). The pro of a tour is that you see a lot in a shorter time. The con is that if you like to control everything on your vacation, you cannot do that (for example the hotel, restaurants). Most tours build in free time and some tours have whole days of free time and only half days of touring so not all tours are the same. I would ask your friend to look at other tours besides Rick Steve's just for comparison. [/quote]
