I was shocked to get my bloodwork results and my A1C is 5.9, which is in the pre-diabetic range. I am a 43 year old female and my lifestyle is extremely healthy. Can someone more knowledgeable about diabetes please try to help me understand what I can do to reverse this and avoid getting full-blown diabetes? I weigh 120 pounds and I'm 5'5" I walk minimum 40 minutes every day of the week. Plus I'm on my feet all day, going up and down flights of stairs many times a day. I do strength training 3-4 days a week I don’t drink any alcohol I don’t eat fast food or fried foods I don’t eat white bread/pasta/rice (I try to eat as little gluten as possible but I'm not completely GF) I eat very few sweets (only dark chocolate & dates) I don’t drink any sugary drinks I get plenty of sleep I drink tons of water I’m so confused as to what is the explanation for my increased A1c number. We have no family history of diabetes. I didn't have it when pregnant. I want to do everything I can to avoid getting diabetes or having to go on medication. Can you please suggest some other things besides what I’ve already listed above? I'm having my bloodwork repeated in 6 weeks.
You need to add way, way, way more fresh leafy and colorful veggies in your diet. Add lentils and beans, nuts and seeds etc. Your meals need to have soluble fiber as well as healthy fat to keep your blood sugar stable. The sugar is absolutely hidden in plain sight in your foods even if you can't identify the source. You are eating high glycymic foods.
